
As per the Department of Administration, the issue of the holiday will depend on the announcement of moon sighting by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The day that will be officially announced as the 1st of Muharram, according to the moon sighting, will be a public holiday all over the province. On this day, all offices, schools and colleges, and other government and semi-government institutions will be closed.

This choice has been taken keeping in view the holiness of the holy month of Muharram and the law and order situation. The first month in the Islamic calendar is Muharram and it holds significant importance across the Muslim world, especially the 10th of Muharram, which is celebrated as Youm-e-Ashura.
District administrations have gotten instructions to provide security during Muharram from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government so that any untoward incidents during this holy month can be prevented.
Police and law enforcement are trying their best to prepare for the occasion and during Muharram, across the province, religious congregations or gatherings (majalis) and rallies (juloos) are organized. The government has also advised the citizens to keep areas peaceful and promote sectarian harmony.
