ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): In a major public-friendly move aimed at providing relief from inflation, the federal government has decided to abolish the monthly Rs35 TV license fee included in electricity bills.

As per sources, it is expected that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will officially announce this decision in the following days.

Officials stated that the decision has been made in response to public demand, with the government focusing on maximum relief for citizens amid the current wave of inflation.

As per released statistics, around Rs1.5 billion is collected monthly from consumers under the TV license fee, amounting to approximately Rs16 billion annually.

This fee had originally been added to electricity bills to provide financial support to Pakistan Television (PTV), but the government has now decided to discontinue it.

On the other hand, ordinary citizens remarked that although the fee amount seemed small per consumer, it had become a significant burden collectively — especially for low-income households. It is expected that the exemption of this will directly benefit millions of consumers.

The initiative has been widely appreciated by the public and they hope that the government will continue to introduce similar relief measures in the future as well.
