Fuel prices likely to rise from July 15; petrol may go up by Rs6.60 per litre
LAHORE (Web Desk): A fresh hike in petroleum product prices across Pakistan may be approved effective July 15, marking the next fortnight’s cycle.

Petrol is expected to increase by approximately Rs6.60 per litre. High-Speed Diesel (HSD) may go up by around Rs5.27 per litre. In contrast, kerosene oil could see a reduction of Rs3.74 per litre, and light diesel oil (LDO) a drop of Rs2.23 per litre.

This proposed revision comes after international oil prices showed fluctuations, prompting the petroleum division to prepare a draft pricing summary. The Ministry of Finance will be forwarded the summary for review. Approval from the Prime Minister will be required for the final changes, and the updated prices will be announced by the Ministry of Finance. New rates will remain in effect for the upcoming 15-day cycle starting July 15.

Pricing adjustments are tied to global oil market trends, where both rises and dips directly influence domestic rates. Additionally, the introduction of the carbon levy and potential tweaks in the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) play a role in final pricing. Previous reports flagged possible petrol surges of up to Rs11–15 per litre and diesel hikes of the same magnitude for early July.

Petrol users will pay more, though the kerosene and LDO drops may offset costs for those using those fuels. Domestic prices remain highly sensitive to currency shifts and global crude rates due to Pakistan s heavy reliance on imported fuels. Transport fares, goods pricing, and broader inflation trends are influenced by these adjustments. These changes also potentially apply additional pressure on household expenses.

The price finalization will proceed this week, and buyers are advised to stay alert for the official announcement from the Ministry of Finance. Starting from July 15, the pricing policy will take effect and apply across the country for the ensuing 15-day period.
