Frontier Constabulary to become ‘National Guard’ under new ordinance

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari has issued Ordinance 2025 to transform the Frontier Constabulary into a nationwide federal force.

The Frontier Constabulary Reorganization Ordinance 2025 issued by President Asif Ali Zardari stated that the Frontier Constabulary will now be called the Federal Constabulary. An ordinance is being issued to extend the jurisdiction of the FC across the country. The ordinance has been issued after the amendments to the FC Act 1915 were approved.

The ordinance stated that the Federal Constabulary will have the authority to work in all four provinces and Islamabad. The Federal Constabulary will also have the authority to work in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The Inspector General of the Federal Constabulary will be appointed by the federal government.

The text stated that rules will be made regarding the Federal Constabulary and a Wing Commander will be appointed in each division. The rank of the Divisional Wing Commander will be equal to that of Deputy Inspector General. The federal government will be able to recruit a federal reserve force to maintain law and order. The Federal Constabulary will be responsible for riot control, internal security, counter-terrorism and protection.

The presidential ordinance stated that the Federal Constabulary will have two divisions, one Security Division and the other Federal Reserve Division. Offices will be established across the country for recruitment in the Federal Constabulary. Under the reorganization framework, the Federal Constabulary will be commanded by officers of the Police Service of Pakistan.
