ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): A major change has been decided in the vehicle registration system in the federal capital, Islamabad.

According to details, the Excise and Taxation Department has issued a notification to link vehicle registration to the owner instead of the vehicle, adopting the American model.

According to a notification issued by DG Islamabad Excise and Taxation, now the registration number plate will not be allotted to the vehicle but to the owner. In case of purchase or sale of any vehicle, a new registration number plate will be issued, which will be in the name of the buyer.

According to the administration, under this new system, the registration number will be permanently linked to the owner instead of the vehicle. Even if the vehicle is not there for some reason, the owner will be able to keep his number for one year. However, if this number is not used on any vehicle for one year, it will be automatically canceled.

It should be noted that this decision will be applicable to both new and old types of vehicles. The aim of this move is to modernize the registration system and make the process of vehicle ownership and tracking transparent and easy.

On the other hand, citizens are calling this new system welcome and the need of the hour.
