(Web Desk): MQM founder Altaf Hussain’s death rumours are making rounds on social media, igniting an online buzz.

Recently, a post claiming that the MQM founder had died in London sparked panic, but senior MQM officials swiftly denied the reports as “false” and urged calm.

In stark contrast to death speculations, London-based MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi confirmed that the 71-year-old political figure was undergoing treatment in a North London hospital for what was described as a severe illness.

As per MQM leaders, Altaf Hussain was hospitalised on Thursday due to heart-related stress, a persistent foot injury, and underlying diabetes. Comprehensive tests were performed, including blood work, ECG, CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound, and a transfusion, indicating doctors are actively investigating his health condition.

In a video, Mustafa Azizabadi said, “Altaf Bhai’s condition is now improving with the grace and mercy of Allah and the prayers of the workers. There is no truth in the news circulating on social media. The workers should maintain unity and order.”

“Today, doctors … prescribed various diagnostic tests including blood tests, ECG, CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound,” Azizabadi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), adding that a blood transfusion had already been administered.

MQM s Deputy Convener, Qasim Ali Raza, echoed the update, noting that Hussain’s health “deteriorated last night” and that he remained under close medical supervision with “nothing alarming so far.”

It is pertinent to note that rumours about Altaf’s death started circulating after Laraib Fatima, a social media user, tweeted that Altaf Hussain, at the age of 71 in London, had passed away, and that in his last moments no party member was present with him. The last rites of Altaf are most probably going to be performed in London. This statement has not been confirmed either by any credible institution or family member.

In high-profile cases—especially involving reclusive political figures like Hussain—fear often breeds speculation. A lack of verified health updates can fuel panic, and in Hussain’s case, a history of serious illness (Covid-19 ICU admission in 2021) adds to the uncertainty. However, no credible source has confirmed his death.

No evidence supports the claim of his death. Official statements confirm he is in hospital receiving treatment. His medical status continues to stabilize, and health bulletins will be issued by MQM spokespersons.
