Electricity prices reduced across the country, including Karachi

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) NEPRA has approved a request to reduce electricity prices across the country, including Karachi.

NEPRA has issued a decision under which the basic electricity tariff has been reduced from July 1. Electricity has been reduced by Rs1.15 per unit for all consumers except lifeline consumers. It will be applicable to consumers across the country, including K-Electric.

The tariff for Lifeline users up to 50 units per month will remain at Rs3.95 per unit. For 100 units per month, the tariff for Lifeline users will be Rs7.74 per unit. For 100 units per month, the tariff for Protected users has been reduced by Rs1.15 per unit.

The new tariff for protected consumers has been fixed at Rs10.54 per 100 units of consumption. The tariff for protected consumers has been fixed at Rs13.1 per 200 units of consumption per month. The price of electricity per unit has also been reduced by Rs1.15 per 100 units for all categories of unprotected consumers.

The basic electricity tariff for commercial consumers has been reduced by Rs1.15. The new average basic tariff for commercial consumers has been set at Rs45.43 per unit. Electricity per unit for general services has been reduced by Rs1.15. The new tariff for general services has been set at Rs43.17 per unit.

For industries, electricity per unit is also reduced by an average of Rs1.15 per unit, while the new tariff for industries was set at Rs33.48. For bulk consumers, electricity per unit was also reduced by Rs1.15. The new basic tariff for bulk electricity consumers was set at Rs41.76.

Electricity per unit has been reduced by Rs1.15 for agricultural consumers. The base rate per unit for the agricultural sector has been set at Rs30.75.

It may be recalled that NEPRA held a hearing yesterday on a uniform basic tariff for the entire country. The government had requested a uniform tariff for the entire country, including Karachi.
