(Web Desk): Two China-based companies have applied for licenses to export donkey meat and bones from Pakistan, official sources confirmed.

According to details, the applications from Chinese companies will cover both slaughterhouse operations and export clearance. If approved, the companies will be granted permission to process and export donkey products exclusively through Gwadar, Balochistan. No production or transportation from any other part of the country will be allowed to prevent local distribution.

Notably China imports donkey meat and hides for both culinary uses and the production of e-jiao, a traditional Chinese medicine made from donkey skin collagen. E-jiao is believed to improve blood circulation, enhance immunity, and promote skin health.

This development comes just days after the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) conducted a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse in Tarnol on July 27. During the operation, officials seized 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat and rescued more than 50 live donkeys. A foreign national was arrested at the scene, and a case has been registered.

Initial investigations suggest that the meat was being prepared for export. Authorities have launched further inquiries to identify other possible shipment points.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the country’s donkey population has increased by 109,000 over the past year, reaching a total of 6.047 million.
