(Web Desk): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Islamabad for the 6th Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, focusing on trade, security, and regional cooperation.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Islamabad on Thursday to attend the sixth Strategic Dialogue between China and Pakistan. He was welcomed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This high-level visit focuses on strengthening cooperation in trade, security, regional development, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The two countries have long-standing ties across various sectors like defence, energy, infrastructure, and technology.

The previous (5th) round of the dialogue was held in May 2024 in Beijing and was also co-chaired by Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi.

Foreign Minister Dar posted on social media that he was "delighted" to receive Wang Yi and looked forward to productive talks. Wang is also expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his stay.

Before coming to Pakistan, Wang Yi also participated in the Sixth Trilateral Foreign Ministers Dialogue in Kabul, along with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Ishaq Dar. The three sides discussed cooperation on political, economic, and security matters.

According to the Foreign Office, the three nations agreed to work closely on counter-terrorism, while also expanding efforts in trade, health, education, drug control, and extending CPEC into Afghanistan.

In July, China and Pakistan announced new joint training programs in key areas like construction engineering, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and hospitality as part of CPEC Phase 2.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to travel to Beijing at the end of this month to attend the SCO Summit (Aug 31–Sept 1), where he is likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines.
