Business tycoon Rafiq Habib dies at 88 in Dubai

(Web Desk): Pakistani business tycoon and philanthropist Rafiq Habib, former chairman of the House of Habib and founding chancellor of Habib University Foundation, passed away in Dubai on Wednesday at the age of 88.

Born in 1937, Habib was among the strongest names in Pakistan s business and philanthropic elite.

As head of the House of Habib, he led one of the country s biggest business groups. Beyond business, his legacy is deeply tied to philanthropy and education.

Habib University, to which he was the founding chancellor of its foundation, ratified his death with an emotional message on social media.

The university paid tribute to his input towards developing its vision as being a driving force behind the formation of a world-class learning institution in Karachi.

Wasif Rizvi, President of Habib University, recalled him as a visionary whose leadership made the project possible. "Rafiq Sahib was the visionary member of the great Habib family who had a dream of a world-class university of higher learning being set up in Karachi," Rizvi said.

“The thousands of young women and men who have walked through Habib University doors and will continue to do so for generations to come are a testament to his vision," Rizvi went on to say. "His generosity was never about wanting recognition; it was a labor of piety to knowledge, service, and the realization that education is the best legacy one can leave for society."

Though the legendary figure passed away his work will continue to inspire new generations, contributing a key part in building Pakistan’s future.
