BISP scam uncovered in Umerkot, govt employees wives took funds illegally

(Web Desk): A major scam involving the misuse of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) funds has been unearthed in Umerkot district.

According to details, wives of hundreds of government employees were found illegally receiving financial stipends under BISP which is meant for underprivileged women.

According to official sources, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued strict orders for the recovery of the misappropriated funds on the instructions of the Sindh Chief Secretary. The scam was uncovered during the verification process of BISP and vaccination program beneficiaries.

A total of 375 government employees from Umerkot, Kunri, Samaro, and Pithoro were identified as beneficiaries through their spouses. This includes individuals working in the primary, elementary, and works departments — such as teachers, clerks, peons, and watchmen.

Following the revelation, the District Education Officer (DEO) issued official letters to all involved, demanding an explanation and notifying them of the recovery process. The treasury department has already received the details of 278 employees, and the recovery of funds will be made in monthly installments through salary deductions.

The incident has caused a stir in the education department, leaving hundreds of employees in panic as their names appeared in the lists. The released documents confirm that government employees  families were benefiting from programs meant solely for the deserving poor.

Authorities have vowed strict action against all involved, and recovery is underway to ensure that welfare funds return to the rightful recipients.
