ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) : A total of 11 members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, including Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, have been stripped of their basic membership from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after allegedly forming a forward bloc and voting against party policy.

According to termination letters issued by PTI’s Additional Secretary General, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, those expelled include CM Gulbar Khan, Surayya Zaman, Shamsul Haq Lone, Raja Nasir Khan Maqpoon, Raja Azam Khan Amacha, Syed Amjad Zaidi, Mushtaq Ahmad, Haji Shah Baig, Dilshad Bano, Abdul Hameed, and Fazal Rahim. Each received a notice with identical wording.

The termination letters state:

“This letter serves as formal notice of termination of your membership, effective immediately. This decision has been made in accordance with party’s policy and procedures. The reason for this termination is your actions in the GB Assembly, specifically making a forward bloc and voting against the party decision, which is a clear violation of our party’s policy.

Your actions have caused harm to the party’s interests and reputation.”

The letters also warn the expelled members to cease using the PTI name, titles, or association in any form, cautioning that failure to comply could lead to legal action.

Despite the formal action, a party insider expressed doubts about its practical implications, claiming that the “entire system” appeared to be supporting the dissident group.

Former GB governor issued show-cause notice

In a related development, the party has served a show-cause notice to former Gilgit-Baltistan governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon. Dated September 5, the notice accuses him of conspiring against the party and attempting to persuade other members to defect.

He has been directed to respond in writing within two days. Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation may result in further disciplinary action in line with party rules.

PTI supports Balochistan strike over rising lawlessness

Separately, PTI has announced its full support for the province-wide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike in Balochistan, scheduled for Monday. The protest was organized by a six-party opposition alliance, including the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Awami National Party (ANP), National Party (NP), and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM).

A statement from PTI’s central media office said the strike was a response to the recent deadly attack on a BNP-M rally at Shahwani Stadium, which claimed several lives and left many injured. The party said the demonstration not only honors the victims but also highlights the government’s failure to maintain law and order.

PTI condemned what it described as the alarming resurgence of militancy in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other parts of the country, blaming misguided government policies and negligence.

“PTI strongly believes that the people’s voice cannot be silenced through terrorism, state repression, or coercion. Our democratic movement for peace, justice, and fundamental rights will continue with even greater resolve,” the statement said.

“We salute the martyrs who laid down their lives to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty. Their sacrifices will always be remembered,” PTI said in its message to the nation.
