Policeman injured in Bannu attack as IED is defused
A Bannu police constable was injured when armed attackers opened fire on him while he was travelling to his duty station.
Police said Constable Safatullah was targeted by attackers riding a motorcycle. He suffered injuries in the shooting and was immediately taken to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital for treatment.
The attack raised security concerns in the area, particularly because police also discovered an explosives-laden motorcycle in another part of Bannu on the same day.
Police launch search for attackers
After the shooting, police cordoned off the area and began searching for the attackers.
Officials also collected evidence from the scene as part of the investigation into the shooting.
Police teams were deployed to trace the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Bannu District Police Officer Mohammad Furqan Bilal visited the hospital after the incident and asked about the condition of the injured constable.
The DPO directed doctors to provide Safatullah with the best possible medical treatment.
He also said that those responsible for the attack would be arrested and brought to justice as soon as possible.
The investigation remained underway as police continued efforts to identify and locate the attackers.
Motorcycle IED attack foiled
In a separate incident, police and the bomb disposal squad prevented a possible terrorist attack near Mandan Gate.
Police said they received information that an explosives-filled motorcycle had been brought into Bannu city.
Personnel from the city police station and the bomb disposal squad reached the location after receiving the information.
The area was immediately cordoned off to keep residents and police personnel away from the suspected device.
Bomb disposal experts examined the motorcycle and found a remote-controlled improvised explosive device attached to it.
According to police, the device contained around seven to eight kilogrammes of explosives.
The bomb disposal squad successfully neutralised and defused the IED before it could be used.
The operation prevented what police described as a potential terrorist attack in the city.

Security response intensified
The two incidents have highlighted the security challenges faced by police and residents in Bannu.
The shooting targeted a police constable travelling towards his duty station, while the discovery of an explosives-laden motorcycle indicated another potential threat.
Police responded to both incidents by securing the affected locations and taking steps to prevent further danger.
The successful defusing of the IED also showed the importance of timely information and rapid response by police and bomb disposal teams.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting and are also examining the origin of the explosives-laden motorcycle.
Officials have not provided further details about the people who may have been behind either incident.
Focus remains on preventing further attacks
Police are expected to increase security measures and continue searches following the incidents.
The attack on Safatullah also highlights the risks faced by police personnel while travelling to and from their duty locations.
Meanwhile, the recovery of the motorcycle IED prevented a potentially more serious incident in a populated urban area.
The bomb disposal team’s quick action allowed the device to be safely removed without causing casualties.
Authorities are now focused on identifying those involved and preventing similar incidents in the future.
