Pakistan Navy launches SEASPARK-2026 to test combat readiness
The large-scale maritime exercise brings together ships, submarines, aircraft, unmanned systems, marines and special forces.
Elements from the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force are also taking part, making the exercise a major tri-service readiness activity.
Pakistan Navy tests combat readiness
The opening briefing of SEASPARK-2026 was presided over by the Chief of the Naval Staff and attended by senior officers from Pakistan’s armed forces.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the exercise is designed to test how effectively the Pakistan Navy can respond to changing security challenges.
The drills cover both conventional threats and newer forms of warfare. They are also intended to improve coordination between different military units and services.
The exercise comes as maritime security is becoming increasingly complex. Modern forces must deal with threats that can emerge at sea, in the air, on land and through digital networks.
The Pakistan Navy is therefore using the exercise to assess its ability to operate across several areas at the same time.
Earlier, the Chief of the Naval Staff visited Pakistan Navy Fleet units and reviewed ongoing operations.
While speaking to officers and personnel, he stressed the need for constant readiness and stronger coordination among the three services.
He also highlighted the importance of adaptability and effectiveness in both physical and information-based operations.
SEASPARK-2026 focuses on multi-domain warfare
A major part of SEASPARK-2026 is the rehearsal of Multi-Domain Operations.
The concept brings together maritime, air, land, cyber and space-enabled capabilities so that different military resources can work together during a crisis.
The exercise also includes Operations in the Information Environment. This reflects the growing importance of information and communication during modern military operations.
According to ISPR, the exercise aims to create an advantage in the information battlespace while maintaining close coordination with operations at sea.
This approach allows military planners to examine how different capabilities can support each other during complex situations.
The participation of unmanned systems and special forces also shows the changing nature of maritime security operations.
Instead of relying only on traditional naval platforms, modern exercises increasingly combine manned and unmanned assets with information and surveillance capabilities.
Naval forces strengthen response capabilities
SEASPARK-2026 also provides an opportunity for Pakistan Navy personnel to evaluate their operational procedures.
Large exercises allow military units to practise communication, coordination and decision-making under simulated pressure.
They can also help identify areas where procedures or coordination may need improvement before a real emergency occurs.
For Pakistan Navy personnel, such training is particularly important because the country depends heavily on secure maritime routes for trade and other economic activity.
The exercise therefore has a broader significance beyond routine military training.
It is intended to prepare personnel for a security environment where threats may develop quickly and require responses from multiple military branches.

Pakistan Navy previously responded to vessel distress
The Pakistan Navy has also demonstrated its maritime response capabilities during a separate incident in the Arabian Sea.
On May 6, 2026, the Navy responded to a distress call from the multi-purpose offshore vessel MV GAUTAM.
The vessel was travelling from Oman to India when it suffered a serious technical failure and became stranded at sea.
Seven crew members were aboard the vessel. Six were Indian nationals, while one was an Indonesian national.
The distress alert was received from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai.
Following the alert, the Pakistan Navy coordinated with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to respond to the situation.
A Pakistan Maritime Security Agency ship, KASHMIR, was deployed to assist the vessel and its crew.
The response demonstrated the role of maritime forces not only in security operations but also in helping vessels facing emergencies at sea.
Why SEASPARK-2026 matters
The exercise comes at a time when maritime forces are facing a wider range of challenges.
Traditional military threats remain important, but cyber operations, unmanned technology, information warfare and other emerging capabilities are becoming increasingly relevant.
SEASPARK-2026 allows the Pakistan Navy and participating forces to practise dealing with these different challenges together.
The involvement of Army and Air Force elements also gives the exercise a broader joint-services dimension.
Such coordination can be important during major security situations when naval, air and land capabilities may need to operate together.
