Bannu operation enters third day as one terrorist killed, eight suspects detained
A joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district continued for the third straight day. During the operation, security forces killed one suspected terrorist and arrested eight other suspects as part of efforts to improve security in the area.
According to police, the operation was led by Bannu District Police Officer Captain (Retd) Muhammad Furqan Bilal. Teams from the district police, Elite Force, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and the Pakistan Army took part in the operation in Griara Shah Jahan village.
Police said the Pakistan Army surrounded the area and set up checkpoints at different locations. During the operation, a suspected terrorist was killed after he was allegedly trying to plant an improvised explosive device (IED).
Authorities said they recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, several magazines, and ammunition from the deceased suspect. During the search, eight more suspected individuals were taken into custody and handed over to the CTD and district police for further technical investigation.

Police also said two Honda CD-125 motorcycles and one rickshaw were recovered from the house of wanted commander Zargul, also known as “Uncle”. Some sources claimed the house was demolished during the operation, but police have not officially confirmed this information.
Officials said joint operations involving security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue until terrorism is eliminated, peace is restored, and the lives and property of citizens are fully protected.
Meanwhile, sources said separate operations are also taking place in different areas of Baka Khel tehsil in Bannu. More details are expected to be released later by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ongoing operation has also resulted in the suspension of mobile phone and internet services across Bannu for the third consecutive day. The disruption has caused difficulties for residents and affected business activities in the city.
