Bajaur police attack leaves constable martyred, three attackers killed
A police constable was killed after unidentified attackers opened fire on him in Bajaur district while he was returning home after completing his duty.
The incident took place near the bus stand in Inayat Kallay Bazaar, located in Khar tehsil, according to police officials and local residents.
Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Rahmatullah, who was serving at Police Lines in Khar.
He was travelling towards his home in the Laghari area of Lowi Mamund tehsil when armed attackers targeted him with automatic weapons.
Mansoor Khan, a police spokesperson, said Rahmatullah suffered critical injuries in the shooting.
He was taken towards District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, but died while being shifted there.
Police launch search for attackers
Soon after the shooting, a police team reached the location and began efforts to track down the suspects.
An official at the Inayat Kallay Bazaar police post said the attackers escaped from the area after targeting the constable.
Police have started an investigation to determine why Rahmatullah was targeted and to identify those responsible for the killing.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the attack.
No militant or other group has claimed responsibility for the killing so far.
The absence of a claim has also left the motive behind the attack unclear, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Third policeman killed in Bajaur within a week
The latest attack has raised further concerns about the security situation facing police personnel in Bajaur.
Police sources said attacks targeting police officers and personnel have increased in the district during the past two years.
According to the sources, Rahmatullah’s killing was the third murder of a policeman reported in Bajaur within one week.
The latest incident also came only two days after the killing of an elder, Malik Mazroof Khan, in War Mamund tehsil.
His killing was reported on Wednesday night, adding to concerns about a recent increase in violence in the district.
The repeated attacks have increased pressure on security authorities to identify those behind the incidents and prevent further attacks.

Investigation continues as security concerns grow
Police officials are now investigating whether the latest shooting was linked to other recent attacks in the area.
