People to get new ID cards, renewal facility at UC level

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) The government has decided to provide the facility to get new ID cards and have the expired ones renewed at the Union Council (UC) level for the convenience of the public.

As per official sources, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a meeting during a visit to the headquarters of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

Interior Secretary Khurram Agha and top Nadra officials attended the meeting which reviewed various proposals to make Nadra more public-friendly.

It was decided in the meeting that the facility to get new ID cards and have the expired ones renewed will be provided at the UC level across the country, and biometric machines will be installed at the UC level.

Officials in the meeting were directed to finalise the plan to provide facilities at the UC level in a few days.

While telling the meeting about his visits to different Nadra centres, the interior minister sought a plan to make the ID card system foolproof, better, and faster.

He also asked for a plan to increase Nadra centres in six major cities within 7 days. He directed steps to build more Nadra centres in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. He also ordered stern action to eradicate the fake identity card mafia.
