The Supreme Court of Pakistan has permitted Barrister Salman Safdar to meet former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, marking a significant development in ongoing legal proceedings concerning the former premier.
A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, heard the case and issued a brief order allowing Salman Safdar to personally visit the former PM today and assess his condition, facilities, and overall well-being inside the jail.
Court Appoints Salman Safdar Friend of the Court
The court appointed Salman Safdar as Friend of the Court, authorizing him to submit a detailed written report on Imran Khan’s health and detention conditions. The Supreme Court also requested a report from the Adiala Jail superintendent regarding the current state of the PTI chief. The next hearing has been scheduled two days later, after reviewing the report.
During the hearing, Attorney General of Pakistan submitted a report covering August 5–18, 2023, which related to Imran Khan’s prior detention in Attock Jail. Chief Justice Afridi emphasized that Salman Safdar, as the court-appointed representative, should face no obstacles in meeting Imran Khan and could directly contact the bench if any issues arose.

Previous Requests for Immediate Meetings Rejected
Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected urgent requests to allow immediate meetings with Imran Khan, citing the need to notify other parties before issuing any orders. During that hearing, senior lawyer Latif Khosa requested access to meet Imran Khan. Chief Justice Afridi clarified that without proper notice, the court could not issue such directives, and notices were subsequently issued to the government for the next hearing.
Scheduled Family and Party Meetings
Separately, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has scheduled meetings for party leaders and lawyers to meet Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail tomorrow. The approved visitor list includes PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, senior lawyers Latif Khosa, Salman Safdar, Ali Zaman, and Khalid Chaudhry. Family members of the PTI chief and Bushra Bibi are also expected to attend. The jail authorities have received the official list in advance.
The development comes amid growing attention on Imran Khan’s health, detention conditions, and legal rights, with the Supreme Court actively monitoring the situation and ensuring proper oversight.
