Karachi (Web Desk): A constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has stopped authorities from deducting money from the salaries and pensions of teachers.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) orders ‘no involuntary cuts until the next hearing’. The court also restrained the Treasury Department and other officials from taking further action for now.

The case was heard after teachers challenged the government’s decision to end the time-scale policy and recover additional benefits already paid to them.

Lawyer Asadullah Baloch, representing the petitioners, told the court that both serving and retired teachers from the Education Department are affected. The petitioners include regular teachers, physical training instructors, and workshop instructors.

According to the petition, these teachers were promoted and upgraded under official departmental rules. Under the Sindh government’s time-scale policy, they were paid in grades 15 to 20.

However, on January 21, the Finance Department issued a letter that was later enforced by the School Education Department. The teachers argue that the salary cuts and recovery of benefits are illegal, especially for those who have already retired.

The court ordered that no involuntary deductions be made from salaries or pensions until further notice. It also issued notices to the Education Department and other concerned authorities.

The hearing has been adjourned for three weeks.
