Big decision for Lahore High Court as Judicial Commission approves new judges

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved the appointment of 10 new judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC) during an important meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

The decision came after detailed discussions on shortlisted candidates and is expected to help improve the court’s working by filling long-vacant positions.

The commission also reviewed the confirmation of one serving Lahore High Court judge along with appointments for the vacant seats. A total of 24 candidates were considered for the 10 available positions before the final names were approved.

The approved judges are Syed Farhad Ali Shah, Amjad Pervaiz, Asad Bajwa, Ghulam Sarwar Nihung, Shireen Imran, Usman Ghani, Rashid Cheema, Munawar Duggal, Ameer Ajam Malik, Khalid Ibn Aziz and Ajmal Khan. The appointments were cleared after detailed deliberations by the commission.

The Judicial Commission is responsible for recommending judges for the superior judiciary in Pakistan. Its decisions play an important role in strengthening the judicial system, improving the speed of justice and ensuring courts have enough judges to deal with growing numbers of cases. The appointments will move forward after completion of the remaining constitutional and official procedures.
