Lahore (Web Desk): Authorities move to enforce existing warrants against PTI leaders following Hammad Azhar’s arrest in cases linked to protests and other incidents.

D-Chowk protest cases under focus

Existing warrants against several PTI leaders in cases linked to the November 2024 D-Chowk protest are expected to be enforced.

According to information provided by authorities, warrants against Junaid Akbar and Abdul Ghani in D-Chowk-related cases are among those being considered for enforcement.

The cases relate to protests and incidents that took place in Islamabad. Authorities are expected to proceed according to the court orders already issued in these cases.

Warrants issued in Judicial Complex cases

Court warrants involving several other PTI leaders in Judicial Complex-related cases are also expected to be acted upon. The names include Shibli Faraz and Murad Saeed.

Hammad Azhar had also been facing warrants in cases registered in connection with different incidents. The enforcement of existing warrants would allow authorities to take legal action based on previous court orders rather than opening new cases.

More PTI leaders wanted in Islamabad cases

Several other PTI leaders are also wanted in different cases registered in Islamabad. They include Zartaj Gul, Aamir Masood Mughal, Dr Amjad Ali and Meena Khan Afridi.

Authorities are reviewing the status of these cases and the warrants issued by the courts. Any arrests will be carried out according to relevant legal procedures and existing court orders.

Legal action against Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt

Authorities have also decided to move forward with legal proceedings against Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt in the Faizabad protest case. The case is separate from the D-Chowk and Judicial Complex cases.

The latest move indicates that authorities are focusing on cases in which court proceedings and warrants have already been initiated. Further action will depend on the relevant court orders and legal process.

Hammad Azhar’s arrest brings cases back into focus

Hammad Azhar’s arrest has brought renewed attention to cases involving PTI leaders.

Azhar was arrested in Multan over cases linked to the May 9 events and was later handed over to Lahore police. Police said he had been declared a proclaimed offender in connection with multiple cases.

An anti-terrorism court subsequently granted police physical remand for further investigation in a Jinnah House attack case. His arrest came after he had remained out of public view for an extended period.

Police directed to enforce court warrants

Islamabad Police has been directed to enforce court warrants against PTI leaders wanted in cases registered at different police stations. Officials have been instructed to act in accordance with the law.

The direction covers previously issued warrants and does not involve the registration of new cases against the leaders named in the existing proceedings. Police action will therefore depend on the warrants and legal orders already issued by the courts.

What could happen next?

The enforcement of existing warrants could result in the arrest of PTI leaders who are currently wanted in different cases. However, the timing and manner of any arrest will depend on police action and the relevant court orders.

The concerned leaders may also pursue legal remedies available to them under the law. Authorities are expected to continue reviewing cases in which PTI leaders have outstanding warrants.

Political and legal implications

The development comes amid continuing legal proceedings involving several PTI leaders. The cases cover different incidents, including the November 2024 D-Chowk protest, Judicial Complex-related cases, and the Faizabad protest case.

The enforcement of old warrants could increase legal pressure on the party leadership. At the same time, each case will have to proceed through the relevant legal and judicial process.
