Supreme Court reserves verdict in SIC reserved seats case

ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday reserved the judgement on the plea of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) that challenged the verdict of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), denying reserved seats to the party in the national and provincial assemblies.

A 13-judge full court of the SC, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, heard the SIC’s plea and reserved the verdict after the conclusion of arguments by all parties.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan were part of the SC bench.

On July 2, the SC adjourned the hearing until July 9 after Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan and Sikandar Bashir Mohmand, counsel for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), concluded their arguments.

The case proceedings were telecast live on the SC’s YouTube channel.

The CJP Isa remarked that the full-court members will consult about the announcement of the judgement.

“Nothing can be said now about when the decision will be announced or whether it would be short or detailed,” Justice Isa added.
