ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Wednesday reiterated that no interference in judicial matters would be tolerated, and he also made it crystal clear that there would be no compromise on the freedom of the judiciary.

He stated these remarks while hearing the suo motu notice taken on a letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) about the alleged interference of intelligence agencies in judicial affairs.

A seven-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa, conducted a hearing on the suop motu notice. Other judges on the bench were Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarrat Hilali, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.

The federal cabinet on Saturday approved the formation of an inquiry commission, headed by Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, to probe the letter of the IHC judges against the alleged interference of the intelligence agencies in judicial matters.

However, Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani had recused himself from heading the commission and informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about his decision through a letter.

It is to be noted here that six IHC judges including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz wrote a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on March 26.

The judges in their letter demanded that a judicial convention be convened over the alleged interference of the intelligence agencies in judicial matters.

CJP Qazi Faez Isa said on March 28 that interference of the executive in judicial matters would not be tolerated. He had also discussed the matter with the prime minister at the Supreme Court.
