Punjab’s ‘Apni Chatt, Mehfooz Chatt’ scheme offers interest-free loans up to Rs1,000,000
The Punjab government has launched a new programme called ‘Apni Chatt, Mehfooz Chatt’ (My Roof, Safe Roof) 2026 to help people repair, strengthen, or expand their homes. Under this plan, citizens can get interest-free loans of either Rs500,000 or Rs1,000,000, depending on their needs.
The loans are being given in two separate categories. The first is for people who want to repair their existing roof or make their house structure stronger. These applicants can get a loan of Rs500,000, which has to be paid back over nine years in easy monthly instalments of Rs4,700.
The second category is for homeowners who want to build an extra floor or expand their existing house. For this purpose, the government will provide an interest-free loan of Rs1,000,000. This loan also has a repayment period of nine years, with a monthly instalment of Rs9,300.
Since there is no interest attached to either loan, borrowers will only repay the exact amount they receive, spread out over nine years, making it easier for low and middle-income families to plan their home improvements without worrying about extra financial burden.
People who are interested in applying can do so online through the official website, acag.punjab.gov.pk. To register for the scheme, applicants need to submit their personal and property-related documents through the portal.

For those who are not comfortable using computers or the internet, there is also an offline option. Handwritten applications can be submitted in person. These can be dropped off at the offices of Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, or the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency in their respective areas.
This scheme appears to be part of the Punjab government’s wider push to improve housing conditions across the province, especially for families who cannot afford commercial bank loans because of high interest rates.
