Punjab Green Credit Program offers up to Rs10,000 for plastic bottles

Citizens can also earn rewards by using electric bikes or scooters, cycling and reporting smoke-emitting vehicles.

Plastic bottles can bring Rs10,000

Under the programme, citizens can receive Rs2,500 for collecting one kilogram of empty plastic bottles and handing them over. Each person can submit up to four kilograms, creating an opportunity to receive Rs10,000.

Electric bike users can get Rs100,000

Citizens using an electric bike or scooter can receive up to Rs100,000 under the programme. The amount includes Rs50,000 for purchasing an e-bike and another Rs50,000 after the bike is driven for up to 6,000 kilometres.

38 green activities included

The Punjab Green Credit Programme covers 38 environment-friendly activities, including reporting smoke-emitting vehicles and brick kilns operating without zigzag technology. It also includes saving rainwater, planting 10 trees, reducing plastic waste, cycling and using cleaner transport.

The programme is designed to encourage citizens to take part in activities that can help reduce pollution. The rewards are linked to actions such as recycling, tree planting, water conservation and cleaner transport.

The government is also seeking to increase individual participation in environmental protection. The programme could encourage more people to adopt environmentally friendly habits while receiving financial rewards for eligible activities.
