Punjab announces e-bike distribution date for students
Pink Bikes for Girls and Black for Boys
Under the Punjab student e-bike scheme, girls will receive pink bikes, while boys will get black ones. The programme aims to make daily travel to schools, colleges and universities easier and more affordable.
Speaking in Mandi Bahauddin, Maryam Nawaz said her government was working to support students on merit rather than through political recommendations.
She also highlighted laptop distribution and Honhaar scholarships as initiatives designed to help deserving students continue their education.
The plan to provide electric bikes for students is intended to ease transport difficulties, especially for those who travel long distances to reach their educational institutions.
100,000 Bikes Planned for Distribution
The Punjab government plans to distribute 100,000 electric bikes in the current phase. More than 1.2 million registrations and over 600,000 applications had been reported by October, showing strong interest in the programme.

Because the number of applicants is much higher than the number of available bikes, the final recipients will be selected through balloting.
Students should follow official announcements for information about selection results and distribution arrangements.
The electric bikes for students could offer a more affordable way to travel for daily classes. However, not every applicant will receive a bike in this phase.

New University and Medical College Opened
Alongside the transport initiative, Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the University of Rasul and a medical college in Mandi Bahauddin.
The institutions are intended to expand access to higher education outside major cities. Students may be able to study closer to home instead of travelling to other cities for university or medical education.
This could reduce travel and accommodation costs for families. It may also provide more opportunities for students who find it difficult to continue their education far from home.
Medical College Classes Expected in 2027
Officials said 100 seats had been approved for the medical college. Classes are expected to begin in February 2027, subject to the necessary arrangements.
Initially, the college will operate from an academic block at the University of Rasul campus.
The government says these education initiatives, along with the Punjab student e-bike scheme, are intended to make learning more accessible to young people across the province.
