LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the second phase of the laptop and scholarship schemes, Information Minister Azma Bokhari said, highlighting technology, artificial intelligence, and skills as key priorities for young people.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the second phase of the laptop and scholarship schemes for students in the province.

She said education, modern technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and professional skills were important for the future of young people.

According to Bokhari, students needed opportunities that could help them gain knowledge, develop practical skills and prepare for changing job markets.

She argued that political protests, long marches and sit-ins could not provide the same opportunities for young people as education and skills development.

The Punjab government has introduced laptop and scholarship programmes to support students and improve access to education. The provincial government’s official website has previously outlined initiatives aimed at expanding access to laptops and financial support for deserving students.

Azma Bokhari highlights technology and youth development

Bokhari said Maryam Nawaz was working to address the educational and social needs of young men and women across Punjab. She claimed the chief minister was treating young people with the same care she would give her own children.

The information minister said these initiatives were helping Maryam Nawaz gain popularity among young people. She also stressed that the country’s future depended on giving students access to modern technology and relevant skills.

As technology continues to change the workplace, digital knowledge and professional training can help young people prepare for further education and employment. However, the long-term impact of such programmes will depend on how effectively they reach eligible students and help them use the resources provided.

Minister accuses political opponents of personal attacks

Bokhari also criticised political opponents of Maryam Nawaz, alleging that some were targeting the chief minister personally because of her popularity and performance. She said that people who spoke about morality and values should focus on constructive political discussion rather than personal criticism.

The minister maintained that Maryam Nawaz’s performance should be judged through the practical steps taken by her government.

She also claimed that the chief minister’s work had received recognition internationally. These remarks reflect the provincial government’s position. The statement did not provide specific examples or independent evidence to support the claim about international recognition.

Azma Bokhari criticises PTI over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security

Turning to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Bokhari criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the province’s security situation. She described the party’s political approach as an era of “fake change” and hollow slogans.

The minister blamed PTI for the security challenges facing the province, alleging that the party had placed its political interests ahead of efforts to maintain peace and protect national interests. These accusations were made by Bokhari and should be understood as her political claims. The statement did not include a detailed account of specific incidents to support the allegations.

KP has faced serious security challenges, including militant violence. Assessing responsibility for the situation requires looking at security incidents, government decisions and the actions of relevant authorities rather than relying on political statements alone.

Minister praises Pakistan Army and security institutions

Bokhari praised the Pakistan Army and other security institutions for their efforts to combat terrorism.

She said security personnel were making sacrifices day and night to protect the country and improve public safety. The information minister argued that criticism of security institutions during counterterrorism operations could affect the morale of personnel involved in those efforts.

She added that the Pakistani nation stood alongside security personnel working to maintain peace. Her comments placed the province’s security debate within the wider national discussion about terrorism, public safety and the role of security institutions.

Education and security remain separate challenges

The minister’s statement covered two major issues: educational opportunities for young people in Punjab and security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The laptop and scholarship schemes focus on students’ access to educational resources and financial support. Their success will depend on transparent selection, fair access, and the effective delivery of benefits.

The security debate in KP involves different challenges and requires evidence-based discussion of violence, law enforcement and government policy. Keeping these issues separate can help the public assess the performance of government programmes while also examining security concerns on their own terms.

What the laptop and scholarship schemes mean for students

Laptop programmes can help students access online learning materials, research resources and digital tools. Scholarships can reduce the financial pressure on families and help eligible students continue their education. For students, the key questions include who can apply, what eligibility conditions apply, how applications are assessed, and when successful applicants will receive support.

The announcement of a second phase may attract interest from students who hope to benefit from the schemes. They should check official Punjab government and higher education department announcements for confirmed eligibility criteria, application deadlines, and distribution details.

The available statement did not specify the number of laptops or scholarships planned for this phase, or provide a detailed implementation timetable.
