Justice Shahid Karim presided over the proceeding on a petition filed by Bilal Ejaz Chaudhry who was Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf-supported independent candidate. The petitioner pleaded that he had been declared successful with a lead of over 8,000 votes.
However, it was said in the petition, the returning officer in vote recount, declared the PML-N candidate winner. The petitioner had sought suspension of the notification of the victory of PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum.
Azhar Qayyum was declared successful after the vote recount from National Assembly Constituency NA-81 in Punjab's Gujranwala District.
As pre the recounting, the returning officer declared Azhar Qayyum successful with a lead of 3,201 votes while his totat votes were 110,057, and PTI-backed Bilal Ijaz was declared runner-up with 106,860 votes.
Earlier, Bilal Aijaz had been declared the winner with 117,717 votes while the PML-N candidate finished as runner-up with 109,926 votes
Aggrieved with the results, Azhar Qayyum had approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and requested for vote recount.
However, the LHC declared the PTI-backed candidate winner in the constituency.
