Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) ordered the temporary judicial custody of Aleema Khan, sister of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), during the hearing of a case linked to the November 26 protest. The decision came after Aleema Khan appeared before the court in person.

At the start of the proceedings, Aleema Khan requested permission to briefly leave the courtroom, informing the judge that her lawyer was occupied at the Supreme Court in an important case and would arrive shortly. However, state prosecutor Zaheer Shah opposed the request, arguing that under Section 351 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused is considered under judicial custody once present in court and therefore cannot exit the premises without the court’s explicit approval.

A brief moment of drama unfolded when Aleema Khan attempted to step outside the courtroom. Female police officers intervened immediately and escorted her back inside, placing her under temporary judicial hold.

The court then issued a clear directive that the accused must not leave the court premises under any circumstances until the hearing concludes. She would remain in judicial custody for the duration of the proceedings.

Later, Aleema Khan’s counsel, Faisal Malik, arrived and presented legal arguments before the court. After hearing both sides, the judge reserved further orders until the next hearing date.

The case continues to draw attention due to its political significance and the ongoing legal challenges faced by PTI leaders.
