(Web Desk): Aleema Khan ends her sit-in at Adiala Jail after authorities assure meetings with Imran Khan.

The sit-in at Gorakhpur checkpost near Adiala Jail, led by Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and PTI supporters, has been called off following successful negotiations with police, officials confirmed.

Authorities held on-site talks with Aleema Khan and PTI leaders, assuring that meetings with the former prime minister would be arranged. Officials confirmed the family will meet Imran Khan today and again next Tuesday, prompting protesters to disperse peacefully.

Aleema Khan had vowed to remain at the checkpost until she was allowed to meet her incarcerated brother. She alleged that Imran Khan is being kept in solitary confinement, terming the treatment “oppressive” and “illegal.” She accused authorities of enforcing a “jungle law” and described their actions as unjust.

The protest severely disrupted traffic on Adiala Jail Road, blocking both sides and causing long delays for commuters. Ambulances and school vans were stranded, with parents expressing concern over delayed arrivals. Aleema Khan insisted that the protest remained peaceful and defended the right to voice grievances, challenging critics who dismissed the sit-in as a “drama.”

She also criticised the deployment of women police officers, claiming their presence was used to “malign other women,” and alleged political motives behind the authorities’ actions. Despite the disruption, no arrests were reported, and the protest ended after authorities’ assurances regarding meetings with Imran Khan.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the PTI leader’s incarceration and the political activism of his family members, while authorities maintain that dialogue will continue to ensure lawful procedures are followed.
