Punjab Police has announced a province-wide mental and physical health screening for all its personnel, from constables to senior officers. The initiative aims to address growing stress, pressure, and psychological challenges faced by officers while performing demanding duties.
According to officials, DIG Establishment Punjab-I has issued directives to all police departments, expressing concern over the increasing mental and physical strain on the force. Police personnel often deal with high-risk situations, administrative pressure, strict duty schedules, and complex social and political challenges, which can contribute to conditions such as schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Under the new plan, each district and police unit will conduct systematic health screenings. Inspections and assessments for inspectors, sub-inspectors, DSPs, SPs, and DIGs will be supervised by senior officers. Additionally, in-charges will carry out individual interviews with their teams, referring suspected cases to district hospital psychiatrists for further evaluation.

All districts have been instructed to submit comprehensive screening reports to the Central Police Office Punjab by December 15, 2025. Officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve officer wellbeing, reduce burnout, and ensure that the force can operate efficiently while maintaining mental and physical health.
Experts believe that early identification and intervention will not only protect officers but also enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the Punjab Police.
