LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has released the new Class 8 smart curriculum.

Under the new plan, extra content from all major subjects has been removed to reduce the academic load on students. In English, four units — “2”, “3”, “8”, and “9” — have been deleted. In Urdu, six chapters from the 20-chapter book have been excluded.

Several complete topics and exercises from Mathematics and General Science have also been removed. Officials say these changes are designed to simplify study patterns and reduce pressure on classrooms across the province.

The new smart curriculum also introduces updated pairing schemes and fresh model papers for all subjects, giving students a clearer outline of what to prepare for exams.

According to the announcement, each subject’s exam will carry 100 marks, including 40 marks for MCQs and 60 marks for long questions. This pattern will apply to both mid-term and final-term examinations.

The Class 8 smart curriculum follows the updated editions released earlier for Classes 9 and 11, completing the province’s effort to make studies easier and more structured. Authorities claim that the revised syllabus removes unnecessary material and makes exam preparation more organised.

Education experts believe that the move will help thousands of students by easing the workload and improving learning outcomes across Punjab.

The new syllabus is meant to reduce pressure on students. Many families were worried about the heavy workload. These changes may help children study with more focus. Some teachers will need time to adjust to the new content. The plan could improve learning if it is applied smoothly.
