(Web Desk): The UAE has opened Spring 2026 scholarship applications for top-ranked global universities, with strict criteria and only 10% of applicants expected to be selected.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has officially opened applications for the Spring 2026 Academic Scholarship Program, one of the UAE’s most competitive and prestigious educational initiatives. The application window closes on November 7, with supporting documents due by November 21. Final results will be announced on November 28.

Designed to send high-achieving Emirati students to top-tier international universities, the scholarship program has been a cornerstone of the UAE’s higher education strategy since its inception. Out of approximately 3,000 applicants each year, only 10% are selected, reflecting the program’s commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness.

Strict Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be UAE nationals and meet 12 specific eligibility conditions, including securing admission into an approved university and specialization listed in the Ministry’s official database. Candidates must also pass interviews and competency assessments, and submit attested and equivalised qualifications.

Additional requirements include:

  • Full-time, on-campus study abroad.
  • National service clearance (for male applicants).
  • Signing a commitment declaration to adhere to scholarship regulations.
  • No concurrent full scholarships from other entities.
  • No previous revocation of a scholarship.
  • Not having been previously funded for the same or lower degree.

Admission Letter Guidelines and Rejection Criteria

The Ministry has outlined nine reasons an academic admission letter may be rejected. These include:

  • Admission into foundation or preparatory programs.
  • English language training courses.
  • Dual-degree or executive/professional programs such as MBAs.
  • Distance or hybrid learning formats.
  • Programs offered via continuing or professional education centers.

Admission letters must clearly state the exact specialization and, if not detailed, must include a direct link to the university’s program page on its official website.

Scholarship Specializations and University Criteria

Scholarships are offered across a broad range of fields, but the chosen university and specialization must meet specific ranking thresholds:

  • Top 50 globally in the field of study.
  • Top 100 in the U.S. or Australia.
  • Top 200 in other countries, or top 300 in non-English-speaking nations.

A legacy of excellence

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mualla, representing the Ministry, emphasized that the Academic Scholarship Program is the UAE’s oldest and most esteemed educational platform, with a legacy dating back to the Union’s founding.

He noted that the program, once focused on expanding access to education, now prioritizes global academic competitiveness. As of the 2024–2025 academic year, 592 Emirati students are enrolled at 115 leading universities across 22 countries, while 187 students graduated and returned to contribute to the UAE’s development.

“This program began with the Union’s foundation when educational opportunities were scarce,” said Dr. Al Mualla. “Today, it stands as a symbol of excellence, innovation, and national ambition. Our scholars are the UAE’s future.”
