KARACHI: (Web Desk) The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) announced the postponement of the annual intermediate examinations 2025.

The exams were originally scheduled to start on April 28. According to the new announcement, the examinations will now begin on May 5, 2025, according to a statement.

To ensure a smooth examination process and the availability of examination centres, the decision to delay the exams were taken, BIEK officials said.

The board gave the two major reasons for the postponement of the examinations. According to a statement issued by the BIEK, the exams were delayed due to ongoing process of awarding grace marks to first-year students of the 2024 intermediate exams.

Moreover, several examination centres across Karachi are currently occupied for the matriculation exams, which will end on May 8.

Board has assured students that it will soon issue a revised time table, advising both students and parents to continue preparations according to the new dates.

In a separate move, the Sindh Assembly’s committee has decided to give grace marks to first-year intermediate students in Karachi who failed their annual exams in 2024.

The decision was taken after a report from a fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi. The committee raised concerns over the procedures and administrative structure of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).

The Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary committee held a meeting regarding Karachi Inter students’ exam investigation.

The fact-finding committee had submitted an investigation report on the first-year exam results of BIEK. After reviewing the report, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that the report questioned several aspects of the board’s procedures and administration.

Sardar Shah announced that in light of the findings, grace marks would be awarded to students who could not pass their annual examination.

Sindh Education Minister said that students will receive 15% grace marks in Physics and Mathematics, while 20% grace marks will be given in Chemistry.
