The former prime minister of Pakistan has been serving a prison sentence in Adiala Jail.

The post of chancellor of Oxford University became vacant following the resignation of 80-year-old Lord Patton, who held the position for 21 years.

For the first time, there will be an online election instead of the traditional process to elect a new chancellor, The Telegraph reported.

The online procedure will allow graduates of the university to participate in the election. The position of chancellor of the University of Oxford is usually held by politicians.

Zulfi Bukhari, adviser to Imran Khan, said that there is a public demand that Imran Khan should participate in the election, and that is why Imran Khan will contest the election.

It is to be noted here that former prime minister Imran Khan studied economics and politics at Keble College of Oxford University in 1972.

He made his debut for the Pakistan cricket team in 1971 and also captained the Oxford University team. He was also Chancellor of the University of Bradford from 2005 to 2014.
