The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions across the province on January 17 (Saturday) on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj, providing relief to students, parents, and teaching staff.
According to an official notification issued by the Sindh Education Department, all government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain closed for the day to mark the religious occasion.
The notification confirms that the decision applies uniformly across Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and other districts. Authorities stated that the holiday has been declared to allow citizens to observe Shab-e-Meraj with religious devotion and respect.
Shab-e-Meraj holds deep religious significance for Muslims, as it commemorates the night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On this occasion, special prayers, gatherings, and religious events are held across the country.

The announcement has been welcomed by families, especially students preparing for exams, as it offers a brief pause in academic routines. Private school associations have also confirmed compliance with the government directive.
