(Web Desk): Pakistan universities have missed the top 400 in the Times World University Rankings 2027, with no local institution entering the list.

Pakistan universities face global ranking setback

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 show that no Pakistani university has secured a place among the world’s top 400 institutions. The result points to continuing challenges for Pakistan in global academic competition.

Quaid-i-Azam University remained Pakistan’s highest-ranked institution, securing a place in the 551–600 band. NUST followed in the 601–650 band, while COMSATS University Islamabad was placed in the 651–700 band.

56 Pakistani universities included

A total of 56 Pakistani universities were included in the global rankings. However, none managed to enter the top 400 institutions worldwide.

The rankings highlight the importance of stronger research and improved academic performance for Pakistani universities. Better international collaboration and greater global competitiveness could also help institutions improve their positions.

Top Pakistani universities remain outside top 500

Quaid-i-Azam University led Pakistan’s institutions in the latest ranking but remained outside the top 500. NUST and COMSATS University Islamabad also secured positions in higher ranking bands.

The results show that Pakistan has a significant gap to close with leading universities around the world. Research quality, academic output and international recognition remain important areas for improvement.

Global competitiveness remains a challenge

The ranking has renewed attention on the performance of Pakistani universities at the international level. Universities may need greater focus on research, innovation and academic collaboration to improve their global standing.

For Pakistan, the inclusion of 56 universities shows a presence in the global ranking system despite the absence of any institution from the top 400. The latest results could encourage universities and policymakers to review ways to strengthen higher education and research.

The ranking reflects the continuing challenge faced by Pakistani universities in competing globally. Stronger research and better international academic links could help improve their positions in future rankings.
