Govt rejects 35-year CSS age limit and five-attempt proposal
Existing CSS rules remain
The proposal had created hope among thousands of candidates preparing for competitive examinations.
Under the current FPSC CSS rules, the general age limit remains between 21 and 30 years.
The existing system also allows candidates three attempts to appear in the examination.
The proposed 35-year CSS age limit would have given older graduates more time to compete for federal civil service positions.
Similarly, the plan for five CSS attempts would have provided candidates with two additional chances.
Proposed changes not implemented
The proposed changes have not become part of the current eligibility rules.
Candidates preparing for CSS 2027 should therefore continue following the existing requirements unless an official notification announces a change.
The government and relevant authorities would need to formally amend the rules before the new age limit or additional attempts could apply.
This means candidates should not assume that the proposed five CSS attempts are currently available.
Why aspirants are disappointed
The possibility of a higher age limit had attracted significant attention from candidates who had crossed the existing age threshold.
Many older graduates and professionals were hoping that the 35-year CSS age limit would give them another opportunity to enter the competitive examination.
The proposed increase in CSS attempts also raised expectations among candidates who had already appeared multiple times.

Until a formal notification is issued, the CSS age limit and existing CSS attempts remain unchanged.
What this means for CSS 2027
For now, candidates planning to appear in CSS 2027 should prepare under the current system.
The proposed 35-year CSS age limit has not replaced the existing upper age requirement.
Likewise, five CSS attempts have not replaced the current three-attempt limit.
Any future change would need to be officially announced before it can be treated as part of the examination rules.
