LAHORE (Web Desk): A Fatima Jinnah Medical College student died after jumping from the hostel building, leaving students and staff in shock.

Police said the student allegedly jumped from the third floor of the college hostel. Rescue teams rushed her to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment, but she could not survive her injuries.

The student was identified as Fareeha, a resident of Azad Kashmir. Police confirmed that she was living in the medical college hostel. Authorities are now investigating the reasons behind the incident.

According to police sources, Fareeha was a final-year student and her exams were ongoing. One paper had already been completed, while the second exam was scheduled for Friday, February 19. She was reportedly under severe depression and stress due to her studies and exams.

Police officials said the student appeared distressed because of exam pressure and allegedly took the extreme step by jumping from the third floor. She had been staying alone in the hostel during her exam period.

This is not the first such incident. About a month earlier, a student at King Edward Medical University allegedly attempted suicide by taking pills and was shifted to Mayo Hospital after her condition worsened.

Earlier this year, another student at a private university also attempted suicide by jumping from a university building but survived. Initial investigations revealed that she was facing severe mental stress after her family refused to allow her to marry a person of her choice.

These repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about students’ mental health, especially in demanding academic environments like medical colleges.

This tragic incident highlights the intense pressure faced by medical students. Exam stress and mental health struggles can become overwhelming. Experts say students need emotional support and counseling to prevent such tragedies. Families and institutions must take mental health seriously and provide help before it is too late.
