5,000 laptops, 2,000 scholarships and jobs? Maryam Nawaz makes big promises for AJK

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced 5,000 laptops and 2,000 scholarships for students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). She said the initiative is aimed at improving access to higher education and digital learning if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) forms the government in the region.

Addressing an election rally in Muzaffarabad, Maryam Nawaz said students in AJK deserve better educational opportunities. She added that the laptop and scholarship programme is intended to help young people continue their studies and prepare for a better future.

She also announced that several welfare schemes currently running in Punjab would be extended to AJK. These include the electric bike scheme, the interest-free loan programme and the Himmat Card programme for people with disabilities.

To improve healthcare services, Maryam Nawaz promised to provide 15 Clinic on Wheels units across AJK. She said these mobile clinics would help people living in remote areas receive medical treatment more easily.

The Punjab chief minister also pledged that a future PML-N government would create more employment opportunities for young people in the region. She said providing jobs and better public services would remain a top priority.

Speaking about healthcare, Maryam Nawaz said the under-construction 1,000-bed Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore would also provide treatment to patients from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

She further said she would request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to expand the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing scheme to AJK so that more families could benefit from affordable housing.

The announcements come as political parties continue their campaigns ahead of the elections, with leaders presenting development plans and welfare programmes to attract voters across the region.
