(Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made it mandatory for all SIM cards in Pakistan to be registered under the user’s name, strengthening accountability, preventing misuse, and securing the telecom network.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a landmark directive requiring all SIM cards in Pakistan to be registered in the name of the actual user. The move is designed to enhance telecom security, enforce accountability, and promote responsible usage nationwide.

According to the PTA, any SIM used by someone other than the registered owner will be considered illegal. The individual registered on the SIM will be fully responsible for all activity conducted, including calls, text messages, and data usage.

The authority emphasized that users must comply with the new regulations, warning that violations could result in strict legal action and penalties under Pakistan’s telecommunication laws.

A PTA spokesperson said, “Every SIM user will be accountable for the activity conducted through their connection, including voice calls, SMS, and internet usage. This initiative is part of our broader effort to safeguard and stabilize Pakistan’s telecom network.”

The PTA also highlighted that registering SIMs in the user’s name is a crucial measure to prevent fraud, identity theft, criminal misuse, and cybercrime. Analysts have welcomed the decision, stating that it strengthens law enforcement, protects businesses, and ensures safer communication networks for individuals across Pakistan.
