Pakistan to launch first-ever cervical cancer vaccination campaign tomorrow

(Web Desk): Preparations have been finalized for Pakistan’s first countrywide cervical cancer prevention campaign, which is set to begin tomorrow (Monday).

The vaccine campaign will be held from September 15 to 27 in Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir, reaching out to girls between the ages of 9 and 14. 13 million girls will be given a single dose of the HPV vaccine under the campaign.

Health authorities confirmed that HPV vaccines and syringes have already been supplied to federal and provincial governments and Azad Kashmir. Punjab got 8.8 million doses, Sindh 4 million, Azad Kashmir 349,000, and Islamabad 152,000.

The Rs 10 billion-worth of vaccines have been donated by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The vaccines will be provided at public and private schools, madrassas, fixed health facilities, community centers, and mobile vaccination teams.

The countrywide roll-out will be done in three phases, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 2026, and then Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan for 2027. Gavi will continue to supply free doses of the vaccine for all three phases.

Government officials also announced that HPV vaccine will be included in Pakistan s immunization program for routine immunization of girls up to the age of nine. For all future drives, the government will be buying vaccines directly.
