
Kota Srinivasa Rao, who recently turned 83 years old, passed away during early hours on Sunday, July 13.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, Rao started his acting career in 1978 with the Telugu movie Pranam Khareedhu. Throughout the decades, he became a lead actor not just in Telugu films but also in Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema.

Prior to his foray into films, Rao was a theatre background artist, which went on to influence his authoritative screen presence. With a career spanning over 750 films, he was most recognized for his authoritative portrayals of villain and character roles. His performance in movies such as Shiva and Aha Naa Pellanta fetched him universal recognition. His last appearance on screen was in the 2023 release Kabzaa.
In appreciation of his significant contribution to Indian cinema, Kota Srinivasa Rao was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015, India s highest civilian honor.
