Muniba Mazari, known as the “Iron Lady of Pakistan,” has reached a historic milestone by being named a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate the first-ever Pakistani to receive this global honor.

The official announcement was made on March 24, 2025, by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who praised Muniba’s strength, resilience, and dedication to gender equality and inclusion. He called her “an inspiration and a leading voice” for the values the SDGs stand for.

As an SDG Advocate, Muniba will now join world leaders like Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados and Queen Mathilde of Belgium in working toward global goals like education, equality, climate action, and social justice.

Reacting to her appointment, Muniba said, “This is more than recognition it’s a responsibility. I will use my voice to stand up for those who go unheard and push for a kinder, fairer, and more sustainable world.”

Her appointment also highlights Pakistan’s growing role in international advocacy, especially in times where the country faces climate challenges and social issues. Muniba’s global leadership will help shine a light on the region’s voice in shaping a better world.
