Why did Suri Cruise remove Tom Cruise from her name?
Suri Cruise adopts a new legal identity
According to reports, Suri Cruise is now legally known as Suri Noelle, replacing the surname Cruise with Noelle, which is Katie Holmes’ middle name.
The Suri Cruise name change is being viewed as an important personal decision as she continues building her own identity.
Records reveal the change
Public records show Suri Cruise registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in October 2024 using the name Suri Noelle while studying at Carnegie Mellon University.
Under Pennsylvania law, voter registration must be completed using a person’s legal name.
There is no public record of the Suri Cruise name change in Pennsylvania, suggesting the legal process may have been completed in New York before she moved for college.
She had already started using Noelle
The legal update may seem recent, but Suri had already begun using the name publicly.
Her 2024 high school graduation programme listed her as Suri Noelle.
Sources previously said the Suri Cruise name change was meant to honour Katie Holmes while helping her create an independent identity before starting university.

Focusing on education and acting
Suri is currently studying musical theatre at Carnegie Mellon University and has started pursuing acting opportunities.
Earlier this year, she appeared in a staged reading of Cosmic Microwave Background and is also expected to perform in Midsummer! before the production heads to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Family relationship remains distant
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri in 2006 before marrying later that year.
Following their divorce in 2012, Katie Holmes raised Suri, while Tom Cruise has remained publicly estranged from his daughter for several years.
