A source told The Sun that both contestants realised early that the experience was becoming too difficult.
The source said the challenges were tough and the living conditions were not easy.
“They both realised early on it was too much. The challenges are tough, the living conditions aren't easy.”
The source added that both contestants had tried their best but eventually decided to walk away.
“They both gave it their best shot but when push came to shove, it all got too much and they walked out.”
The reported exits have now created an unexpected situation for the production team.
The source said their departure could make for interesting television, but it has also caused difficulties for producers.
“It's going to make for amazing television but it's caused a headache for producers.”
Star-studded line-up
Despite the reported exits, several familiar names remain part of the cast.
Football star Rio Ferdinand and his wife Kate Ferdinand are among the celebrities taking part.
Brother and sister duo Louise Redknapp and Joe Nurding are also part of the line-up.
The cast further includes Dancing On Ice judges Christopher Dean and Karen Barber.
Boyband stars Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy are also participating in the programme.
Social media personalities Paul Olima and Jeremy Lynch complete the reported cast.
