Taylor Swift copyright lawsuit ends with major court win
The Taylor Swift legal victory marks another major milestone after the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding, which attracted worldwide attention.
The court dismissed the Taylor Swift copyright lawsuit, bringing the legal dispute to an end.
Judge rules in Taylor Swift’s favour
A US District Judge ruled in favour of Taylor Swift by dismissing the Taylor Swift copyright lawsuit filed by poet Kimberly Marasco.
The lawsuit claimed that Taylor Swift copied phrases and ideas from Marasco’s poems in more than a dozen songs.
However, the judge rejected the claims and dismissed the case "with prejudice," meaning it cannot be filed again.
The ruling also cleared producer Aaron Dessner, Republic Records, and Universal Music Group of all allegations.
Court finds no evidence of copying
According to the ruling, the judge found that the poems did not contain material protected by copyright law.
The judge also said the Taylor Swift copyright lawsuit failed to present convincing evidence that the singer copied any protected content.
Several examples were reviewed during the case, including claims involving The Man and The Great War.
The court concluded that the similarities involved only common ideas, themes and everyday expressions that cannot receive copyright protection.
No proof Taylor Swift accessed the poems
The judge noted there was no evidence showing Taylor Swift or any of the other defendants had access to the poems before writing the songs.
Court documents also stated that one of the poet’s collections sold around 3,000 copies worldwide and was not widely promoted.
The judge criticised the complaint for combining multiple songs, poems and defendants without clearly explaining each allegation.

Victory follows wedding celebrations

The Taylor Swift legal victory follows shortly after the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding, making it another memorable moment in the singer’s personal and professional life.
Legal experts had earlier predicted that the Taylor Swift copyright lawsuit would likely fail because the claims did not meet the legal requirements for copyright infringement.
