The movie Spider-Man: No Way Home actress Mary Egida Rivera died peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu, according to her family.
A relative shared that she suffered a stroke before being placed on life support. Doctors reportedly informed the family that even if she recovered from the coma, her condition was unlikely to improve. After careful consideration, her loved ones decided to remove life support.
The family confirmed the news publicly on August 3.
Marvel role became one of her proudest achievements
Although Mary Egida Rivera had worked in different fields throughout her life, many people around the world came to know her as Ned Leeds’ grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The Spider-Man: No Way Home actress appeared alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Andrew Garfield in the 2021 Marvel blockbuster.
Her relatives said she remained extremely proud of becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and often spoke about how much the role meant to her.

Mary Egida Rivera’s daughter, Angie Kelly, recently shared how her mother landed the famous role.
She explained that she came across a casting call on Facebook looking for a local Filipina grandmother from Hawaii between the ages of 50 and 90. Believing her mother was the perfect fit, she encouraged her to audition.
For the audition, Mary Egida Rivera simply spoke about her life, her childhood in the Philippines, moving to the United States and raising her family. That heartfelt introduction eventually helped her secure the role.
A life filled with many accomplishments
Before becoming a Marvel actress, Mary Egida Rivera had already built an inspiring career.
According to her daughter, she worked as a radio broadcaster and a teacher. However, she always believed her greatest achievement was being a mother to four children and a grandmother to 11 grandchildren.
Her family described her as someone who dedicated her life to helping others while always putting family first.
