Harvey Weinstein sentence for 15 years of prison in sexual assault case
Weinstein gets 15-year prison term
Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.
The Harvey Weinstein 15 years sentence was handed down by Manhattan Judge Curtis Farber on Wednesday following Weinstein’s conviction at a retrial last year.
Prosecutors had asked the court to impose a 20-year sentence, while Weinstein’s lawyers sought a shorter punishment.
The Harvey Weinstein sexual assault case has remained in the spotlight for years and became part of the wider #MeToo movement that brought allegations against powerful figures in the entertainment industry into public view.
Retrial followed overturned conviction
The Harvey Weinstein retrial came after New York’s highest court overturned his original 2020 conviction in 2024.
Weinstein, now 74, was convicted again in June 2025 of first-degree criminal sexual act for assaulting Haley at his Manhattan apartment.
The Harvey Weinstein retrial marked another major stage in the long-running legal proceedings against the former movie producer.
Haley speaks about assault
Haley addressed the court before sentencing and spoke about the impact of the assault and the years of legal proceedings that followed.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg praised Haley for coming forward and described her testimony as an important part of the case.
