Punjab to establish Film City in Lahore to boost media industry
Sharing the update on her official platform, the chief minister described the project as a transformative step toward building a self-sufficient ecosystem for content creation in the country. She noted that the initiative has been in development for nearly two years, shaped through consultations with filmmakers, producers, and actors.
The proposed Film City will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern studios, sound stages, advanced visual effects (VFX) and post-production facilities. Plans also include diverse outdoor backlots, a lake, a convention hall designed for international award ceremonies, and dedicated media trade hubs. Additionally, a film and music school will be established to nurture emerging talent.
The project will be developed within Nawaz Sharif IT City and is expected to bring film, television, animation, and digital media production under one integrated platform. Officials believe this move will significantly reduce reliance on foreign production services while strengthening local capabilities.
Maryam Nawaz emphasised that the Film City will generate thousands of employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly. She also highlighted its potential to promote growing sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital media.
Calling it “a gift to youth and artists,” she expressed hope that the initiative will showcase Pakistan’s creative potential on the global stage. The project will be completed in phases, with more details to be shared in the coming months.
